Sifuna Alleges Flight Details Leaked to Interior Ministry

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has alleged that the flight details for a political delegation he was leading to a Kakamega rally on Saturday were leaked to the Ministry of Interior.

Sifuna claims that the commercial airline they used shared their itinerary with the ministry, compromising their safety.

“We were all booked on commercial flights from JKIA. The airlines shared our itinerary with the ghouls in the Ministry of Interior, knowingly putting us at risk,” he wrote on X.

The ODM Secretary General said the breach led to the deployment of hostile individuals at Kisumu International Airport, where the team had originally planned to land. Sifuna revealed that upon learning of the security threat, they changed their arrival to Kakamega Airport.

He has demanded that the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) explain how such a breach could occur and provide assurance on passenger safety, particularly at Kisumu airport.

“How they allowed goons to barricade the airport needs to be explained,” he said.

Despite the security scare, Sifuna insisted he will continue his nationwide Linda Mwananchi mobilisation tour, aiming to transform the country.

During the Kakamega rally, teargas was thrown, but political leaders continued addressing their supporters.

“We will not escape today, we are not going anywhere. Throw some more,” Sifuna declared as the crowd briefly scattered before regrouping.

He was joined by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, and others, all pledging to continue their nationwide mobilisation despite earlier security concerns.

Western Regional Police Commander Isaak Mahoud stated that authorities had not received formal notification of the rally and only learned of it through social media.

“There are allegations that tomorrow we will have a rally led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna at Amalemba. This is what we got through social media,” Mahoud said, adding that no official request for police assistance had been made but that security would be provided if required.
