Sakaja Defends Ruto, Calls for Patience on Stalled Roads

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has called out leaders from the Central region who are pressuring President William Ruto to complete stalled infrastructure projects.

Sakaja reminded them that Ruto has only been in office for two years and urged the public to be patient. He highlighted that, in contrast to previous administrations, Ruto has already made significant progress in improving the economy in a short time.

Pointing to the unfinished Mau Mau road, Sakaja noted that the four previous presidents, who held office for 58 years combined, were unable to finish it. He questioned, “Ruto has been in office for two years—why expect him to complete the road so soon? Give him time, and he’ll resolve the issue.”

The governor also expressed that the pressure on Ruto was unfair, saying, “I think we have been very unfair to you, Your Excellency.”

Sakaja’s comments were made during a church service at the United Pentecostal Church of Kenya in Nairobi, where President Ruto was also present.

He acknowledged that the pressure on Ruto from his critics stemmed from the recognition that he is a performer. Sakaja noted this is the first time Kenya has not had to import maize and sugar, a result of the president’s efforts in the agricultural sector. He added that unlike previous years, maize importers are no longer crowding around Kilimo House for licenses.

On his own administration, Sakaja called for patience from Nairobi residents, explaining that the city’s challenges have been decades in the making and will take time to address. He emphasized the county’s commitment to solving these issues.

President Ruto revealed that the national and county governments have allocated Sh4 billion to improve Nairobi’s road infrastructure. He assured that the incomplete roads left by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) will be finished, with the aim of transforming Nairobi into the city everyone envisions.
