The Office of the Controller of Budget, led by Margaret Nyakang’o, has revealed that President William Ruto’s office spent an average of Ksh.2 million every day on printing in the last financial year.
According to the National Government Budget Implementation Review Report for 2024–2025, State House used Ksh.817 million on printing services alone — equivalent to Ksh.68 million monthly and Ksh.2.2 million daily.

The expenses covered the production of government policies, executive orders, press statements, invitations for State House guests, and other official communication materials.
The report also highlighted that Ruto’s office allocated Ksh.1 billion to advisory services, with Ksh.62 million going to Kenya–South Sudan advisory, Ksh.46 million to the Power of Mercy, Ksh.450 million to counter-terrorism, Ksh.97 million to economic and social affairs, Ksh.150 million to strategic policy, and Ksh.251 million to oversight of public entities.
Additionally, the office spent Ksh.1.9 billion on administration and support services and Ksh.765 million on leadership and coordination. The number of presidential advisors has since grown to 20.
The report further disclosed that State House Nairobi is undergoing major renovations, with Ksh.399 million spent so far on works currently 66% complete. Since the project began, refurbishment costs have hit Ksh.1.17 billion, with completion expected in 2027.

This comes despite government promises to cut unnecessary spending in efforts to manage the budget deficit, raising concerns about extravagance in the wake of Gen Z-led protests that forced the withdrawal of the Finance Bill 2024.
