Addressing the national team at their hotel, Ruto apologised, explaining that he returned late from official duties and was advised that arriving late at the venue could trigger security concerns, potentially causing disorder.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t join you yesterday. I came back late from another engagement, and I was cautioned that arriving late might create a rush that could disrupt the event,” he said.

Earlier, the President had attended a church service in Limuru before inspecting Affordable Housing projects in the area.

He added that although he was not physically present, he watched the game live on TV and was impressed by the team’s performance, especially after they played nearly half the match with 10 men following Chrispine Erambo’s red card just before halftime.

Ruto praised striker Ryan Ogam, whose 42nd-minute goal — his first in international football — ended Morocco’s 14-match unbeaten run and boosted Kenya’s chances of reaching the quarter-finals.

The President described the win as a testament to the country’s unity and determination, commending the squad’s discipline and resilience.

“You made Kenya proud. This is our time, our moment. We must make the necessary sacrifices to achieve our goals,” he concluded.
