Instead of marching to Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o’s office, members of the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Kisumu branch gathered at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital to participate in a blood donation drive for the 26 survivors and to honour those who died.
KNUN Deputy Secretary General Maurice Opetu said the move was driven by compassion, adding that the union still expects the county government to engage in dialogue over their grievances, including implementation of the 2024 SRC salary review and other welfare concerns.
He assured that nurses in critical hospital units would continue caring for the injured and called for psychological support for the affected families.
If no agreement is reached, nurses say protests will resume on Tuesday.
