President William Ruto on Friday met with a delegation of Ukambani leaders at State House, Nairobi, to deliberate on his upcoming visit to the region and preparations for the Mashujaa Day celebrations scheduled for October 20.
The team, led by Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, included top government officials and legislators from the Ukambani region.

Talks during the meeting focused on the President’s itinerary, progress on ongoing development projects, and final arrangements for the national celebrations to be hosted in Kitui County.
CS Mutua said the meeting reaffirmed President Ruto’s commitment to improving the region’s socio-economic wellbeing.
“The President remains deeply devoted to the development of our people. He briefed us on the many projects already underway in Ukambani and shared details of his planned visit, which will officially be announced by his office,” Mutua said.
President Ruto noted that the government had moved from stabilising the economy to focusing on accelerating growth, job creation, and wealth generation.
“We have made great progress in stabilising our economy. The next phase is about speeding up growth and creating opportunities for Kenyans. This requires collective effort and unity of purpose for Kenya’s long-term transformation,” he said.
The Head of State also commended Ukambani leaders who have joined hands with the government in advancing development programs.
“I want to thank Mwingi West MP Charles Ngusya Nguna for his decision to work with our team to fast-track development in his constituency,” Ruto added.
This year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations will take place at the newly built Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County. The event, themed “Energy”, will pay tribute to Kenya’s heroes and highlight the government’s achievements in the energy sector.
During an earlier inspection of the stadium on September 30, Interior PS Raymond Omollo confirmed that the facility was 92 percent complete, with roofing, seating, and access works nearing completion.
Omollo assured the public of smooth and secure celebrations, saying the infrastructure developments would have a lasting impact on the region.
“The investments being made here will continue to benefit Kitui residents long after the celebrations,” he said.
President Ruto’s planned Ukambani tour is expected to strengthen relations between the national government and local leaders while showcasing ongoing development initiatives ahead of the national holiday.
