At least 25 people have died in Ukraine in the latest wave of Russian attacks, Ukrainian officials say, with the conflict showing no signs of abating.
One attack in Donetsk Oblast killed at least 11 people and wounded 40, including six children, local officials said Saturday. Homes and infrastructure were hit in other regions, including Kharkiv and Odesa.
Russia’s attacks have escalated in recent days, as the United States suspended military aid and intelligence cooperation with Kyiv. It followed a White House meeting last week between President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky.
After the latest Russian attacks, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said: “This is what happens when one pleases the ignorant.”
“More bombs, more aggression, more victims,” he added in a message on social media.
The deadliest attack occurred on Friday evening in the town of Dobropillya in Donetsk Oblast. At least 11 people were killed when two ballistic missiles hit eight residential buildings and a shopping mall, officials said.
After emergency services arrived, Russia launched another attack “deliberately targeting rescuers”, Zelensky said in a message on Telegram. “Such attacks show that Russia’s goals have not changed,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has continued to target Russia, whose defense ministry said its forces had shot down 31 Ukrainian drones overnight.
On Friday, Trump said he was finding it “more difficult, frankly, to negotiate with Ukraine” than Russia in attempts to bring peace between the two nations.
The United States “is getting on very well with Russia,” and “it may be easier to continue discussions with” Moscow than Kyiv, he told reporters.
