AMREF Flying Doctors has identified the four team members who died in the August 7, 2025 Mwihoko aircraft crash, honouring them as dedicated professionals who served with distinction.

The victims were pilots Captain Muthuka Munuve and Captain Brian Kimani Miaro, alongside medical staff Dr. Charles Mugo Njoroge and Jane Rispah Aluoch Omusula.
Capt. Munuve, with nearly seven years at AMREF, was a check pilot qualified on both the Cessna Citation XLS and Pilatus PC-12, logging over 10,000 flight hours and earning respect for his precision, safety focus, and leadership. Capt. Kimani, with almost four years of service, was an instructor captain on the Pilatus PC-12 with over 5,800 hours, known for his skill and professionalism.
Dr. Njoroge, a medical doctor for more than seven years at AMREF, was celebrated for his compassion and lifesaving work. Omusula, an emergency flight nurse for nearly five years, was admired for her courage and calm under pressure.
CEO Stephen Gitau called their loss “immense,” describing them as heroes who gave their lives in service to humanity.
The Cessna Citation XLS (5Y-FDM) crashed shortly after takeoff from Wilson Airport en route to Hargeisa, Somalia, hitting a residential building in Mwihoko, Kiambu County, killing all four on board and two people on the ground.
Investigations are underway, and AMREF has appealed to residents to return any missing parts of the aircraft’s flight data recorder to aid the probe.
