The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecasted extended rainfall across multiple regions of the country over the next five days, from Friday, March 27 to Monday, March 31.

The weather outlook predicts heavy isolated rainfall in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, South-Eastern Lowlands, Coastal region, and parts of Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya.

Counties such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot will likely experience afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with additional rainfall at night.
Similar weather patterns are expected in Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, as well as inland areas of Tana River County, although breaks in sunshine are anticipated on Monday morning and afternoon.
From Thursday to Sunday, Turkana and Samburu counties are also expected to have afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall tapering off early next week.
In the Central region, counties including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi are forecast to experience showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.
A few areas in Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties will see afternoon showers in the first four days of the forecast period. However, Monday is expected to bring sunny breaks in the afternoon, followed by partly cloudy conditions at night.
Mary Githinji of Kenya Meteorological Services highlighted that the Coastal region—including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, along with coastal parts of Tana River County—will see intensified rainfall both during the day and night for the next four days.
Conditions are forecast to improve on Monday, with intervals of sunshine during the day and partly cloudy skies at night.
