Putin Prefers Biden Presidency for Russia Over Trump

By: CNN

Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, expressed in an on-camera interview with pro-Kremlin journalist Pavel Zarubin on Wednesday that a Joe Biden presidency would be preferable for Russia over a Donald Trump administration.

Putin highlighted Biden’s experience, predictability, and background as reasons for this preference, describing him as a seasoned politician. However, Putin emphasized that Russia would collaborate with any US leader who earns the trust of the American people.

Regarding the current US administration’s actions, Putin criticized what he perceived as a detrimental and misguided political stance, particularly concerning Russia’s involvement in Ukraine. He lamented the ongoing conflict, suggesting that it could have ended sooner if agreements made during a meeting in Istanbul in March 2022 had been honored. However, Putin did not elaborate on the specifics of these agreements.

Putin expressed regret over not taking more proactive measures in Ukraine earlier than February 2022, attributing his hesitation to concerns about NATO expansion into Eastern Europe. He asserted that Russia had been misled by Western leaders regarding NATO’s intentions, citing fears about the security implications of Ukraine joining the alliance.

Moreover, Putin questioned the sincerity of the Minsk agreements, a ceasefire protocol signed by Ukraine and Russia in 2015, suggesting that they were never intended to be upheld. Instead, he alleged that they were used as a pretext to supply Ukraine with additional weaponry, rather than facilitating genuine peace efforts.

In addition, Putin revealed disappointment with his recent interview with far-right media personality Tucker Carlson, expressing anticipation for tough questions that never materialized. He had hoped for an opportunity to provide robust responses but found the interview lacking in the challenging discourse he expected.
