Speaking during a Thanksgiving event at Kapkoros Barngetuny Secondary School in Nandi County, Bitok reiterated the government’s firm stance against any romantic involvement between teachers and students.
“We will not tolerate any conduct where teachers or school stakeholders exploit our children,” Bitok declared. “Such actions must be condemned in the strongest terms possible.”
He added that disciplinary action would not be limited to the Alliance Girls incident but extended to any educator found guilty of similar behavior across the country.
His remarks follow a report published in Africa Uncensored’s Deep Dive newsletter, which identified a teacher from Alliance Girls School accused of inappropriate conduct with students.
The Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Kenya) has also condemned the alleged misconduct. In a statement issued on Monday, July 7, FIDA-Kenya voiced grave concern and pledged solidarity with the affected students.
“These revelations are not only shocking—they’re deeply disturbing,” said FIDA-Kenya Chairperson Christine Kungu. “It’s unacceptable that someone entrusted with mentorship could instead inflict harm. We commend the bravery of the students who have come forward.”
Kungu noted that survivor accounts pointed to both abuse and institutional failure to protect students. FIDA-Kenya denounced all forms of sexual abuse, especially by those in positions of authority, and called on both the school administration and the Ministry of Education to take urgent action.
