Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was on Thursday forced to cut short his two-day tour of Tharaka Nithi County after rowdy youths chanting pro-government slogans disrupted his rally.

Kalonzo had begun the visit by commissioning a Wiper office in the county before proceeding to Kibong’a for a rally. However, the event turned chaotic when youths repeatedly shouted “Tutam,” a slogan used by government supporters to mean President William Ruto will serve two terms.
The chants drowned his speech, forcing him to abandon the address midway. Kalonzo later expressed his frustration, accusing a senior government official of sponsoring the disruption, which he described as a show of intimidation and intolerance.
“He should lead by example and allow free political engagement. If he encourages such disruptions here, how will he be welcomed elsewhere?” Kalonzo posed.
The slogan “Tutam” has recently gained traction among Ruto allies as a counter to the “one term” narrative pushed by former Deputy President and DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, who has challenged Ruto’s re-election in 2027.

Kalonzo condemned the heckling, warning that political intolerance is becoming a defining trait of the Kenya Kwanza administration. He urged leaders to safeguard democracy by allowing opposition voices, stressing that using youth to disrupt rallies undermines Kenya’s democratic space.
