Following the death of former ODM leader Raila Odinga, uncertainty has emerged over the party’s political path as 2027 approaches, with some ODM elected leaders expressing reluctance to back Ruto’s re-election bid.
ODM leader Oburu Oginga has, however, maintained that the party’s current engagement with President Ruto is confined to the broad-based government arrangement up to 2027.
“ODM should prepare and form a pact with us so that we approach 2027 as a united team. UDA and the Kenya Kwanza coalition are ready to work with you to build a first-world Kenya,” Ruto said.
He was speaking at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay town during the Genowa Governor’s Cup, an annual tournament hosted by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, where he revealed that discussions are ongoing to lay the groundwork for a possible new alliance.
Ruto noted that UDA is developing a roadmap that could lead to a coalition with ODM, while encouraging ODM leaders to strengthen their party to become a formidable political force.
He added that efforts are also underway to consolidate UDA and the wider Kenya Kwanza Alliance in preparation for the 2027 elections.

The President urged his political rivals to focus their campaigns on development issues rather than personal attacks or divisive rhetoric.
“Let them present their agenda to Kenyans and stop campaigning on vague issues that do not improve people’s lives,” he said.
Ruto further stressed that voters will judge candidates based on development records, not personal characteristics, warning against distractions disguised as campaign strategies.

Oburu, who attended the event, said ODM is willing to continue working with Ruto under the broad-based government framework.
“As ODM, we will support President Ruto within the broad-based government until 2027, and we also look forward to forming the next government together,” Oburu said.
Governor Wanga called on ODM supporters to uphold unity within the party and resist efforts to divide it ahead of the elections.
