Five fishermen lost their lives after a fishing boat capsized on Lake Victoria near the Dho-Goye area of Usigu Sub-county on Sunday evening.
Rescue teams are still searching for three fishermen who remain unaccounted for after strong winds hit the vessel, causing it to overturn while they were fishing.

Usenge Beach Management Unit (BMU) chairman John Ochieng’ said seven fishermen were aboard the boat at the time of the incident.
“Five fishermen drowned when the boat capsized due to strong winds. One survived by holding onto the overturned boat until fellow fishermen reached him and rescued him,” Ochieng’ explained.
He confirmed that two bodies have been recovered and taken to Got Agulu Sub-county Hospital mortuary, with ongoing efforts to locate the remaining three victims.
BMU officials, alongside local fishermen, continue to search the lake as recovery operations go on.
