Paul Muite Applauds Kenya Met for Accurate Weather Forecasts

Senior Counsel Paul Muite has praised the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) for delivering timely and accurate weather forecasts that have proven vital as heavy rains continue across the country.

In its weekly outlook for September 30 to October 6, 2025, the department predicted widespread rainfall despite prevailing sunny conditions at the time. The forecast also cautioned Kenyans in flood-prone areas to remain alert and follow official advisories.

True to the projections, intense downpours have been reported in several parts of the country, including Nairobi, where flash floods disrupted transport and business activities.

Muite lauded the accuracy of the forecast on social media, writing: “Hongera Meteorological Services. Accurate weather forecast, rain, and timely information to Kenyans.”

In its latest advisory, KMD said the rains are expected to intensify through October 5, affecting regions such as the Central Highlands (including Nairobi), Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Western and North-Western Kenya.

The agency warned of isolated heavy rainfall ranging from 20mm to 50mm in 24 hours, with some areas likely to exceed this, potentially leading to localized flooding, slippery roads, and travel disruptions.

October marks the onset of Kenya’s short rains season, which runs until December. While crucial for agriculture, the season often poses risks in urban centres such as Nairobi, where poor drainage frequently leads to flooding.

Weather experts have emphasized the role of science, technology, and human expertise in modern forecasting, noting that accurate predictions not only support agriculture but also help save lives and livelihoods during extreme weather events.
