Pastor Kanyari Admits ‘Mbegu Ya 310’ Was Strategy to Kick out Poverty

Pastor Victor Kanyari, also known as Bishop Mwangi, has revealed the true motive behind his controversial appeal to his followers to donate money in exchange for blessings and miracles.

Speaking at his Salvation Healing Ministry church in Nairobi, Kanyari admitted that the ‘mbegu ya 310’ plea wasn’t about delivering miracles as claimed, but rather a strategy to lift himself out of poverty.

“I was the main preacher in Nairobi, there was no one else. Ezekiel and Ng’ang’a were not there, it was me addressing this town. But I didn’t have money, that’s why I started asking for (Ksh)310. I said sow a seed of 310 and let’s not argue about it. It wasn’t out of greed, poverty had engulfed me completely,” confessed Kanyari.

Nevertheless, he maintained that he did perform miracles such as healing and delivering people from poverty through prayers.

“I started asking for 310, my friend, but I didn’t know God would grant me wisdom and knowledge to earn money. God gave me anointing, but it wasn’t an anointing for money. It was for healing people’s illnesses,” Kanyari elaborated.

He further revealed his current wealth status, boasting of multiple cars, some of which he struggles to find parking spots for, and ensuring his children attend prestigious schools.

In 2014, KTN’s investigative program, Jicho Pevu, exposed Kanyari’s fraudulent activities, revealing how he deceived his followers with staged miracles hidden behind church curtains. He would then exploit these fake miracles to convince his followers to send him Ksh310 for prayers.

The scandal led to his separation from his wife at the time, singer Betty Bayo, who distanced herself from her husband’s actions. Bayo, known for her hit songs, was at the peak of her music career when the exposé unfolded.
