Odinga: Kenya’s Housing Project Not Truly Affordable

Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party, has continued to voice his criticism of the Kenya Kwanza housing project and the levy associated with it, arguing that it is far from affordable.

Addressing a gathering in the Kirunga area of North Imenti Constituency, Meru County, on Saturday, Odinga expressed his dissatisfaction with the implementation of the affordable housing project, rather than the concept itself.

While acknowledging his role in crafting the project during his tenure as Minister of Public Works and Housing, Odinga stressed the need for tailored plans for different regions rather than a uniform approach.

He faulted the government’s approach to revenue generation, advocating for a crackdown on corruption instead of burdening Kenyans with additional taxes.

Accompanied by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other leaders, Odinga also praised the church for its bold stance against the current government, which he believes has fallen short of its promises.

Odinga’s remarks were made during his attendance at a graduation celebration for the daughter of his long-time friend, Zablon Mathenge Mwariama.
