NPSC Promotes 738 Police Officers Across Various Ranks

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has authorized the promotion of 738 officers across different ranks within the National Police Service (NPS).

This decision followed the recommendations made by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and the National Police Service.

In a statement, NPSC chairperson Eliud Kinuthia revealed that the promoted officers come from the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

“Under Article 246(a), the Commission has approved the promotion of 738 Police Officers within the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service, and Directorate of Criminal Investigations, each assigned to their respective ranks,” Kinuthia said.

He emphasized that the promotions adhered to the principles outlined in Articles 10 and 232 of the Constitution, ensuring that national values and governance standards were maintained.

Kinuthia also assured that the process was competitive, transparent, and inclusive, with attention to regional, ethnic, and gender balance.

“The Commission evaluated the qualifications of the recommended Officers for promotion and was satisfied that the required criteria were met,” Kinuthia added.

Among the promoted officers, 14 were advanced to the rank of Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police (SAIG), 51 to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), 135 to Commissioner of Police (CP), 277 to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), and 261 to Superintendent of Police (SP).

In addition to uniformed officers, 50 civilian staff members within the National Police Service also received promotions in various roles, acknowledging their valuable contributions.

The promotions aim to improve service delivery, enhance morale, and promote professionalism within the NPS, ensuring strong leadership within the police force.
