Alego/Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has urged Siaya MCAs to shelve any plans to impeach Governor James Orengo, arguing that such a move would be unnecessary with the next general elections fast approaching.
Speaking at his rural home in South East Alego, Atandi said voters should instead be given the opportunity to decide Orengo’s fate at the ballot. He cautioned that pursuing impeachment now would only waste time.

However, a section of Siaya youth defended the governor, describing him as an effective leader and encouraging him to contest both the ODM party leadership and the presidency in 2027.
Atandi maintained that local leaders have already identified a potential successor who will prioritize consultation and development in the county. He also accused Orengo of poor leadership, claiming he was using the “Linda Mwananchi” campaign to mask inefficiency.
The MP further alleged mismanagement in the county, citing unpaid electricity bills that led to disconnection at the governor’s office and a controversial health sector recruitment scandal in which over 500 youths reportedly lost money through bribery before being dismissed after nine months.

Meanwhile, youth leaders including Kenneth Otieno, Fidel Omondi Oyuka and Babu Victor dismissed criticism against Orengo, praising his democratic credentials and long-standing support for Raila Odinga. They said they are mobilizing voters to back him in the upcoming elections.
