Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko recently met with Mary Njoki, a woman who gained attention online for tattooing Sonko’s face on her thigh. Njoki, a single mother from Murang’a, appealed for help from Sonko, showcasing her tattoo and sharing her struggles.
In a meeting at Sonko’s Nairobi offices, he learned about Njoki’s background and family situation.
Sonko pledged to support her by setting up a boutique business in Murang’a, emphasizing that he would not provide cash but would cover initial expenses for the shop’s setup.
During the conversation, Sonko inquired about Njoki’s children and promised to ensure her needs were met. Additionally, he committed to investing Ksh. 100,000 into her new venture.
Njoki expressed her loyalty to Sonko, stating she wouldn’t remove the tattoo even if her financial situation improved. This encounter echoes a previous incident where another woman, Maryanne Njoki, tattooed Sonko’s face on her thigh, prompting Sonko to urge against such displays of support.

Maryanne Njoki, in a statement to reporters, explained that she admired Sonko’s philanthropy, which motivated her to get the tattoo as a sign of admiration. She emphasized her appreciation for Sonko’s efforts in assisting others and her desire to express support through the tattoo.
