Metropolitan Department Forecasts Ongoing Rainfall Until Next Friday

The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that a significant portion of the country will continue to witness moderate to heavy rainfall over the next seven days.

In a statement issued on Friday, the meteorological authority indicated that the areas predominantly affected are located in the southern half of the country, while the North-eastern and North-western regions of Kenya are expected to remain dry.

“From January 6th to 12th, 2024, anticipate sustained rainfall in the southern half of the country, with North-eastern and North-western Kenya experiencing generally dry conditions,” the statement conveyed.

The Met. Department also issued a warning about potential moderate storms in the South Rift Valley and South-eastern lowlands.

“Isolated storms may occur over the South Rift Valley and South-eastern lowlands. Stay weather-aware,” emphasized the meteorological authority.

This forecast from the Met. Department coincides with a period of heavy rains that have been affecting various parts of the country in recent months, attributed to the El Nino phenomenon.

On Friday afternoon, the Nairobi region experienced intense downpours.
