Nyandarua Senator John Methu has accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of contributing to political violence, claiming his leadership poses a threat to peaceful elections ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, Methu alleged that individuals who disrupted an opposition church gathering in Witima, Nyeri County, were the same people involved in violence witnessed during the recent Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

According to the senator, the identities of the individuals are known and their names have already been submitted to the Inspector General of Police.
Methu further claimed that the group operates as a parallel militia outside the National Police Service and questioned how the Interior Ministry could effectively guarantee national security if such groups were allowed to exist.
He argued that there was no security situation in Ol Kalou that justified the violence witnessed during the by-election, maintaining that the incidents were politically motivated.
The senator also reaffirmed the opposition’s determination to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
He said the opposition remains committed to its political agenda, insisting it would continue mobilising support ahead of the next national polls.
His remarks come after chaos erupted at several polling stations in Ol Kalou Constituency on Thursday, July 16, during the parliamentary by-election. Journalists were reportedly assaulted, cameras confiscated and teargas fired as voting entered its final hours.
Despite the disruptions, voting continued and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho was declared the winner after securing 35,440 votes.
Methu also commented on the conduct of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), commending election officials on the ground for managing what he described as a credible voting process.
However, he criticised the commission’s handling of some pre-election activities, questioning what he termed selective enforcement of the Electoral Code of Conduct. He argued that the distribution of mattresses in the presence of a government-backed candidate should have been treated as voter bribery.
