His body was found hanging from the roof of his house on Saturday evening after colleagues went to check on him when he became unreachable by phone.

The incident occurred shortly after he had been ordered to report to Siaya GK Prison, a transfer he is said to have opposed.

Reports indicate that he later contacted his mother, expressing frustration over the transfer before switching off his phone.

Homa Bay County Criminal Investigation Officer Peter Kimulwo confirmed that the officer had shown reluctance to take up the new assignment.

Kimulwo also noted that Ochieng had recently been discharged from Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he had been treated for severe pneumonia last month.

“Soon after returning home, he was informed of the new deployment,” he said.

Ochieng, a long-serving officer with nearly two decades in the Kenya Prison Service, had served for close to 20 years.

His body has been moved to the Homa Bay mortuary for a postmortem as investigations continue.
