The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of heavier rains and isolated storms in parts of the country from Tuesday, August 12, to Monday, August 18, 2025.
According to the forecast, the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, and parts of the North-western region should expect more intense rainfall, with some areas experiencing localised thunderstorms.

Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are also likely over parts of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, South-eastern Lowlands, and the Rift Valley.
Temperature shifts are expected, with North-eastern and North-western areas recording daytime highs above 30°C, while parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt Kilimanjaro may see night-time lows below 10°C.
Strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots are forecast along the Coast, territorial waters, and parts of the South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western regions.
Regional outlook:
- Western & Rift Valley (Kakamega, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kericho): Afternoon showers and thunderstorms, occasional morning and evening rains. Daytime: 28–30°C, nights: around 11°C.
- North-western (Turkana, Samburu): Mostly sunny early in the week, turning to isolated storms and night showers later. Highs up to 35°C, lows down to 8°C.
- Central Kenya & Nairobi: Cloudy mornings, sunny breaks, and afternoon showers in some areas. More widespread rains likely on Saturday. Minimums as low as 8°C midweek, highs of 26–27°C.
- North-eastern (Mandera, Garissa, Wajir): Largely dry and sunny, with light showers possible by Saturday night. Daytime highs of 33–35°C.
- South-eastern Lowlands: Cloudy mornings, sunny afternoons, no significant rainfall. Highs of 28–30°C, lows of around 9°C by the weekend.
- Coast (Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu): Warm with sunny intervals, occasional light showers Friday and Saturday. Highs of 28–30°C, humid nights at 19–21°C.
The public is urged to be cautious in areas prone to flooding or strong winds, and mariners are advised to watch for rough seas. Official updates should be followed closely.
