A 52-year-old passenger passed away aboard a matatu traveling the Machakos-Koka route, prompting an investigation by detectives.
Peter Kioko Wambua, the deceased, was found unresponsive when the conductor attempted to wake him upon reaching his destination.
Wambua, who boarded the matatu in Machakos town bound for Kamuani, his rural home, had informed the conductor of his stop and paid his fare. He requested to be alerted upon arrival at Kamuani.
Upon reaching the destination, the conductor tried unsuccessfully to rouse Wambua, realizing he had passed away. The conductor sought assistance from another passenger to help move the body off the vehicle.
Subsequently, the police were notified, and upon arrival, they found the body by the roadside. Wambua’s family identified him, and it was revealed he had requested fare from his mother that morning, citing illness. Medicine sachets were found in his shirt pocket.
The body, showing no visible injuries, was transferred to Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
In a separate incident, a suspect named Galgalo Abdub, 32, was apprehended with nine rounds of live ammunition in Karantina Village, Marsabit, based on a police tip-off.
Abdub is being investigated for illegal possession of ammunition. Furthermore, a police officer was arrested in Mbale, Vihiga County, under suspicion of involvement in a shooting and robbery case reported on April 14, 2024.
