Hon Douglas Mbilu, the Speaker Makueni County Assembly celebrated the confirmation of nearly 500 ECDE teachers from contract to parmanent and pensionable terms, Commissioning teaching materials for ECDE schools and launch of the strategic plan for the County Department of Education at Wote,Makueni.

Speaking during the event on Monday,the honourable speaker maintained that the National Government should keep off the function of Pre-Primary Education. It belongs to Counties.

Also he cited the ongoing attempts by national government to claw back early childhood education function through the recommendations of the Presidential Working Party for Education Reforms (PWPER) is unacceptable.

“We alternatively urge the government to channel whatever resources it wishes to spend on pre-primary education towards supporting higher education through bursaries and establishing a public university in Makueni- “The Makueni University.”

The Occassion was attended Governor H.E Mutula Kilonzo Jr., Members of Makueni County Assembly, County Executive officials and various stakeholders in education sector.
