Makueni’s Deputy Governor, H.E Lucy Mulili, issued a passionate call to farmers, urging them to stand firm against selling their crops, particularly beans and green grams, at undervalued prices during this period of abundant harvests.

In an effort to empower farmers and ensure fair compensation for their produce, Mulili disclosed that the county administration is actively coordinating with various farmer cooperatives. The goal is to facilitate the procurement of crops at equitable prices, which will then undergo value addition processes at the Makindu grain processing plant.
Moreover, Mulili directed her attention to mango farmers in Makueni, urging them to leverage the competitive prices offered at the county’s Kalamba Fruit Processing plant. By doing so, the Deputy Governor aims to counteract the exploitative practices often perpetrated by middlemen who purchase mangoes from farmers at unfairly low rates.
Mulili’s remarks came during her address to residents at Kisaulu village in Kilome Sub-county. She was attending the funeral service of Philip Muthiia, the late father of Christine Musembi, affectionately known as Tina of Mwatu FM.

In her tribute, Mulili celebrated Philip’s commitment to public service, particularly within the national government administration.

The Deputy Governor’s call resonates with ongoing efforts to empower farmers and ensure their economic sustainability in Makueni County. As the agricultural sector forms the backbone of the region’s economy, initiatives like these play a crucial role in fostering prosperity and equitable growth among farming communities.
