Following an outage that affected M-PESA services from around 11:00 am on Tuesday, normal functionality has been restored. The disruption was observed on both Safaricom’s M-PESA App and the Sim Toolkit.
Banks had alerted customers to possible delays and requested patience until further instructions were provided once the issue was resolved.
At 11:32 am, a customer attempting to send money through M-PESA received a notification stating, “MPESA is experiencing delays and is not able to accept your request. Please wait for 10 minutes before trying again.” Error messages on the M-PESA app and SMS notifications informed users about ongoing maintenance causing processing issues.
As of the latest update, Safaricom PLC has not released an official statement regarding the approximately two-hour outage.
