The bust occurred early Friday during routine baggage screening when customs officers flagged two suspicious suitcases using the airport’s advanced scanning systems. Upon closer examination, the officers discovered dozens of sachets skillfully tucked into the inner linings of the bags.

“This interception underscores the vigilance of our customs teams and the effectiveness of our modern scanning technologies,” KRA said in a statement.

The suspected narcotics were immediately handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Unit for further analysis and investigation. Authorities are currently detaining a suspect linked to the luggage as a multi-agency probe—led by KRA, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and other security bodies—continues.

KRA reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding the country’s borders and pledged continued collaboration with local and international agencies in the fight against transnational crimes, particularly drug trafficking.

This incident follows a similar interception on February 19, 2025, when DCI anti-narcotics officers at JKIA discovered suspected amphetamines hidden inside a carton of ten large candles.

That shipment had originated from Bujumbura, Burundi, and was destined for Australia.
