Kenya Airways has announced an increase in flight frequency to Kisumu over the weekend to accommodate the surge in travel demand following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

To meet the growing demand, Kenya Airways has added and upgraded several flights to Kisumu. On Friday, October 17, two additional flights — KQ656 at 1:30 p.m. and KQ658 at 7:00 p.m. — will operate.

On Saturday, October 18, the airline will introduce an extra flight, KQ650, departing at 6:50 a.m., while KQ654, leaving at 8:05 a.m., will be upgraded to a larger Boeing 737 aircraft.

The adjustments continue into Sunday, October 19, with flights KQ654 (8:05 a.m.) and KQ671 (7:00 p.m.) also upgraded to Boeing 737s. On Monday, both KQ654 and KQ670 will operate using the same larger aircraft type.

“We remain committed to ensuring seamless travel for all our guests,” Kenya Airways said, noting that it was working to support the national mourning period and the increased movement of people to the region.

The move comes as thousands of Kenyans and international delegations prepare to attend the state funeral of the late Raila Odinga, who will be laid to rest on Sunday in his rural home in Bondo, Siaya County.
