In a notice published in Tuesday’s edition of My Gov, KNEC Chief Executive Officer Dr. David Njengere highlighted the council’s commitment to enhancing the capacity of educators in assessment practices to uphold quality standards and accurately evaluate learners’ competencies.

“The Council is seeking applications from qualified teachers and teacher educators to undergo training in the creation of high-quality test items to support the effective implementation of Competency-Based Assessments in both Basic Education and teacher training institutions,” stated Dr. Njengere.

He added that successful participants will be considered for future engagement by KNEC as contracted professionals whenever necessary.

To qualify for the training, applicants must demonstrate high levels of integrity and professionalism, and be subject matter experts in the areas they wish to be trained in. They must currently be teaching in any of the following levels:

  • Senior School (teachers currently teaching in secondary schools who will handle Grade 10 from 2026)
  • Teacher Training Colleges (DTE-PP&P, DSTE, and the Stage-Based Pathway – Foundation, Intermediate, or Prevocational levels)

Applicants must also hold relevant academic and professional qualifications, be well-versed in curriculum designs related to their specialization, and have at least three years of teaching experience.

Additionally, applicants must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and have a recommendation from their head of institution. Those already trained by KNEC are not eligible to apply.
