Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has sent a goodwill message to the Orange Democratic Movement as it holds its National Delegates Conference (NDC) at Jamhuri Grounds in Nairobi, a gathering viewed as crucial to the party’s unity and future course.
In a post on X, Kindiki described ODM as a partner in the current broad-based political setup, underscoring ongoing cooperation between the government and sections of the opposition.

“Best wishes to ODM, our partners in the broad-based administration,” he said.
His statement reflects a shifting political environment, where collaboration between former rivals has become more visible following recent interactions between the government and ODM.
The message comes at a time of rising internal tensions within ODM, with rival factions staging parallel meetings in Nairobi, highlighting growing divisions within the party as the 2027 elections approach.
The Jamhuri Grounds conference, supported by the party’s mainstream leadership, is expected to attract thousands of delegates from across the country to discuss leadership and organisational issues.
Meanwhile, a rival group associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has opposed the meeting and organized a separate event.

Traditionally an opposition party, ODM has recently experienced shifts, with part of its leadership taking a more cooperative stance toward the government, even as internal disagreements intensify.
These divisions stem from disputes over leadership and direction, with some members backing the current leadership while others question recent decisions.
The government has also been promoting inclusive political engagement following the unrest witnessed in 2024.
