The Kirinyaga County Assembly has committed to allocating funds for the identification, acquisition, and development of talent across all wards. This initiative was disclosed by County Speaker Muteti Murimi during a talent search event at Tebere Secondary School, organized by Gathigiriri Member of County Assembly Benson Ngahu.
Themed “Jivunie Talanta”, the event aims to raise awareness about drug and substance abuse among youth. Speaker Murimi emphasized that managing talent effectively can serve as a source of livelihood for many young people. He encouraged participants to maintain a positive mindset and work diligently toward their goals.
Murimi highlighted the county’s commitment not only to pass policies facilitating youth empowerment but also to allocate funds for this purpose in the budget. He expressed the importance of using talent to sensitize Kirinyaga’s youth on drug abuse.
Daniel Muriithi, the leader of the majority in the county assembly, urged talented youths to embrace opportunities and resources provided by both national and county governments. He warned against drug abuse, emphasizing its connection to mental health issues.
Host MCA Benson Ngahu organized the event to encompass various disciplines and specializations, including comedy, art, dancing, poetry, and modeling. He emphasized the severe effects of gambling and betting, calling for increased control measures.
Nominated MCA Bosco Gichangi revealed ongoing efforts to secure a Sh 30 million allocation in the county budget. This fund would be distributed to all wards to support talent identification and development initiatives.
