Kenya, China Expand Partnership in Health Sector

Kenya and China have strengthened their partnership in the health sector, with China pledging 500 scholarships and introducing 20 annual exchange programs.

Following a meeting with a delegation led by Chinese Ambassador Guo Haiyan, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale emphasized the importance of the partnership in shaping Kenya’s future health leadership.

The talks also explored the potential for setting up local vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, leveraging Chinese technology.

Duale said the $500 million joint initiative aims to boost Kenya’s health supply chain, reduce reliance on imports, create jobs, and position Kenya as a regional hub for medical product manufacturing.

He also proposed forming a Kenya-China Health Cooperation Taskforce to align goals, speed up agreements, and track progress.

Duale praised China’s ongoing support through tech companies, which have helped equip rural clinics and train thousands of healthcare workers.
