Kalonzo Urges Defence CS Tuya to Act on Border Security

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has demanded that Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya take charge of safeguarding Kenya’s borders, arguing that the responsibility rests with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) rather than the Interior Ministry.

Speaking during a service at AIC Kasina Church in Mlolongo, Machakos County, on Sunday, Kalonzo said Kenya’s sovereignty was at risk amid reports that Jubaland forces from Somalia had crossed into Mandera, occupied BP1 Primary School, and disrupted learning and daily life.

The incursion has reportedly triggered fear, displacement, and economic hardship in the area.

“These are not matters for the police. It is the Defence Ministry that must deal with foreign troops. The silence from the Defence CS and the President is worrying, while Mandera residents continue to suffer,” Kalonzo said, stressing that it was unconstitutional to allow armed foreign forces into the country.

He was accompanied by DAP–K leader Eugene Wamalwa, Makueni Woman Rep Rose Museo, lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, and Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti.

Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif and Senator Ali Roba have also raised concerns, though Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen dismissed the claims, assuring that security agencies were in control.

Kalonzo, however, insisted that the Defence Ministry must intervene urgently:

“You can’t deny what’s happening. Refugees are entering with weapons. The military should disarm them immediately.”

Wamalwa echoed the call, describing the situation in Mandera as regrettable and urging the government not to dismiss opposition leaders raising security concerns. He noted that both he and Kalonzo had previously sat in the National Security Council and understood the gravity of the matter.

Governor Ndeti praised Kalonzo as the face of the opposition, especially after ODM leader Raila Odinga’s cooperation with the government. She declared support for his 2027 presidential ambitions, urging other leaders not to exploit his influence for personal gain.

“Kalonzo Musyoka is the leader Kenya needs. He is clean, dependable, and prepared to take this country forward,” Ndeti said.
