Sheryl, a first-year student at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), had just completed her exams and was at home helping her mother at a fish kiosk when the shooting occurred.
Her death triggered violent protests that lasted from Saturday night into Sunday morning. Residents clashed with police, blocked roads, set fires, and torched property, including buses, business stalls, and at least three cars.
The local police station was also vandalised. Gangs reportedly used the chaos to loot nearby shops.
Security agencies later intervened to restore order, firing warning shots in the air and eventually removing Sheryl’s body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Tension in Huruma remained high on Sunday, with police maintaining a visible presence.
