Governor Kawira Mwangaza of Meru is urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to publicly disclose detailed evidence uncovered during a recent raid at her residence in connection to the investigation into the murder of blogger Daniel Muthiani, also known as ‘Sniper.’
In a press conference on Friday, Governor Mwangaza, accompanied by her husband Murega Baichu, warned that she would lead county residents in a protest if the DCI fails to comply.
“If, by tomorrow, the DCI does not provide detailed evidence of what they found in my residence, we will protest as Meru residents until we receive that report,” she declared.
Governor Mwangaza claimed to know an individual who contacted the blogger at least 15 times before his death and alleged that this person was paid by Deputy Governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia. She questioned why the DCI hadn’t revealed this information and accused the investigation of being politicized.
The Governor demanded comprehensive information from the pathologist who conducted the post-mortem on the deceased, asserting that suspects set to be charged with Sniper’s murder are being coerced to implicate her due to a lack of evidence. She mentioned having recordings of a witness disclosing evidence to implicate her and vowed not to be silenced.
Additionally, Governor Mwangaza called on the DCI to release the names of individuals who allegedly sent money to the blogger through M-Pesa on the day he was murdered, specifically government officials. She insisted on a clear explanation and a comprehensive report from both sides.
In light of Sniper’s disappearance on December 2 and the subsequent discovery of his body on December 16, 2023, the government pathologist Johansen Oduor conducted a post-mortem examination, revealing that the cause of death was strangulation. The examination indicated marks on the neck, signs of oxygen deprivation, fractured ribs, and head injuries, suggesting he was strangled before being thrown into a river.
