The Kiambu High Court Deputy Registrar, Jackline Karani, has directed that two individuals connected to the murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani, known as Sniper, undergo a mental assessment.
Vincent Mureithi Kirimi, also known as Supuu, and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai, also known as Tali, will be held in custody at Muthaiga Police Station for an additional 7 days until January 29, during which a psychiatrist will assess their fitness to stand trial.
The decision comes after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed on Thursday that there is substantial evidence to support the murder charges against the two suspects. Furthermore, the ODPP has filed a case against five other suspects, currently awaiting proceedings at Kibera Law Courts.
Sniper, the Meru blogger, was reported missing on December 2, 2023, and his body was later discovered dumped in Mutonga River in Tharaka Nithi County on December 16, 2023. Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Odour, through a postmortem examination, determined that he had been strangled to death.
