Gen Z Vow Continued Pressure After Ruto’s Cabinet Dismissal

Following President William Ruto’s decision to dissolve his entire cabinet, a segment of Kenyan youth, notably Generation Z, has pledged to persist in their demands until all issues raised during the Finance Bill 2024 protests are addressed.

In a forum held shortly after Ruto’s announcement, the youths emphasized that this move marks just the beginning of their campaign for a better country. They vowed to maintain pressure until their concerns are fully addressed.

“We need to remain steadfast. Today is a victory, but we cannot afford to relent. We must show them it’s not business as usual,” remarked one participant in the forum.

In addition to calling for the dismissal of Cabinet Secretaries, Generation Z has demanded thorough audits and accountability measures for all officials implicated in any ongoing cases. They expressed skepticism about President Ruto’s intentions and called for clarity on his strategies.

The youth group also advocated for a complete reshuffling of Permanent Secretaries once new Cabinet Secretaries with untarnished records are appointed, as part of their anti-corruption agenda.

“On corruption, our work is far from over. After this, we must focus on the county governments where corruption is rampant,” they declared.

Despite the challenges, they remain hopeful that their protests and efforts will yield meaningful reforms.

President Ruto’s decision to dismiss all Cabinet Secretaries except Deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi of the Foreign Affairs docket was announced on Thursday.

“After carefully listening to the voices of Kenyans and evaluating my Cabinet’s performance, I have decided, within the powers vested in me by the Constitution, to dismiss all Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General, with the exception of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs,” Ruto stated.
