Nyagudi was elected in a 2004 by-election following the death of Joab Omino earlier that year. He served out the remainder of the term but was defeated in the 2007 election by Olago Aluoch.
During his time in office, the Kisumu Town West constituency remained unchanged until the Interim Independent Boundaries Review Commission (IIBRC), led by Andrew Ligale, restructured it into Kisumu Central and Kisumu West constituencies.
In the 2013 elections, following the implementation of the new constitution, Nyagudi ran for the Kisumu Central MP seat but lost to Ken Obura, a political newcomer. After leaving politics, Nyagudi transitioned into business and largely stayed away from the public spotlight.
