In what appears to be an April Fool’s joke, journalist Larry Madowo has declared his intention to leave Cable News Network (CNN) and rejoin his former employer, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Using his social media account on Monday, April 1, Madowo posted, “Some personal news: after 3 incredible years with CNN, I’m excited to share that I’ve returned to the BBC in Washington.”
He further stated, “Thank you for a great ride.”
However, The Lower Eastern Times has noted that despite the announcement, Madowo has yet to update his profile bio, which still indicates his role as an international correspondent at CNN.
His bio states, “Former BBC North America Correspondent. Nomad. Past lives in Joburg, London, New York & Washington.”
As of now, CNN has not issued any statement regarding Larry’s departure, which is customary for their journalists’ exits or appointments.
His followers on social media platforms like X, LinkedIn, and Instagram have expressed doubt, suggesting that Madowo might be participating in the annual prank tradition.
Madowo joined CNN in 2021 following a four-year tenure at the BBC, where he served as the BBC’s North America Correspondent in Washington, D.C., and previously as the BBC Africa Business Editor.
