Five chiefs were allegedly kidnapped on Monday by suspected al-Shabaab militants in Mandera County in Kenya.

North Eastern Regional Commissioner John Otieno said the five were on their way to Elwak when they were abducted between Bamba Owla and Ires Suki.
According to the regional police chief, a joint security force has been deployed to hunt down the kidnappers.
Further reports indicate that the area’s administrators were to hold a meeting ahead of President William Ruto’s visit to the area this week.
Ruto is scheduled to embark on a week-long tour of the North East region, as part of efforts to engage with local communities and address regional development priorities.
