The fire forced residents to flee for safety as the flames spread rapidly.

The blaze reportedly began around 9:20 pm and was brought under control by 11 pm, after spreading to nearby buildings.

The Kenya Red Cross reported that multiple agencies, including the Kenya Red Cross Action Team, the Kenya Defence Forces, and the Kiambu County Fire Brigade, worked together to manage the situation.

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi confirmed that the disaster management team was sent to the scene to address the emergency.

“Earlier this evening, a building in Kiambu Town caught fire. The Kiambu County Government’s disaster management unit was dispatched to the scene. More updates will follow,” he posted on social media.

Images and videos shared by the Star showed intense flames and thick smoke, with residents heard screaming as emergency teams fought to control the fire, which they eventually succeeded in putting out.

Witnesses expressed concern over the delayed response, noting that a quicker reaction could have minimized the damage.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
