Jowie was sentenced to death in March 2024 by Justice Grace Nzioka after being convicted of the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.
He has since filed a notice of appeal at the Appellate Court challenging his conviction and sentence.
In his application before the Milimani Law Courts, Jowie argues that the methods of carrying out the death penalty are torturous, cruel, and inhumane.

He contends that it violates Article 25 of the Constitution, which outlines fundamental rights and freedoms that cannot be limited, including protection from torture, degrading punishment, slavery, and the right to a fair trial.

Jowie maintains that his sentence for the murder of Monica Kimani infringes on his non-derogable right to freedom from cruel and inhuman punishment and seeks for the court to declare this.
