A school dormitory in Kisii suffered a devastating fire, destroying property valued at Ksh.10 million.
The incident, which occurred at Nyakoiba Mixed Secondary School at 5 am on Friday, is currently under investigation by the Kisii police.
Tom Anjere, the county commissioner, revealed that the inferno caused significant losses to students’ belongings. Thankfully, no injuries were reported as the fire broke out during the students’ morning preps, while they were not in the dormitory.
To prevent such substantial losses in the future, a multi-agency team has urged school management and stakeholders in the county to prioritize the installation of fire extinguishers.
