Five people have lost their lives and three others sustained injuries following a tragic road accident at Makotelo area along the Webuye–Malaba highway in Bungoma County.
The crash occurred on Tuesday night, just minutes before midnight, involving a public service vehicle and a trailer that was heading towards Webuye from Kanduyi.

Eyewitnesses reported that the impact of the collision was severe, leaving the vehicle badly damaged and causing multiple fatalities at the scene.
Bungoma South OCPD William Letting confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased include three men and two women.
The injured victims were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were moved to the mortuary pending identification and postmortem examinations.
Following the accident, residents have called on relevant authorities to install speed bumps along the highway, citing a rise in frequent road crashes in the area.
They also urged police to release four youths who were arrested at the scene over allegations of looting, as investigations into the incident continue.
