Doctors in Kenya have called off a strike that had crippled the country’s healthcare system for 56 days.
The doctors’ union and the government reached an agreement after intense negotiations. One of the controversial issues is still not resolved.
The doctors are now expected to return to work within the next 24 hours.
The move gives relief to Kenyans who have been struggling for lack of medical services.
The government and the doctors’ union have failed to reach an agreement on the services and payment of general practitioners, who are the backbone of the public health system.
The union wants doctors to be paid $1,500 a month, but the government says it can only afford to pay them $500.
The case will now be decided by the court, meaning that the doctors were off duty for the next 60 days.
