Detectives Raid Clinic, Arrest Two Over Illegal Abortion in Marsabit

Detectives in Marsabit have arrested two people following a raid on an unlicensed clinic linked to an alleged illegal abortion, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has said.

In a statement posted on X on Sunday, January 4, 2026, the DCI said the case came to light after residents of Malkalakore village in Drib-Gombo discovered the body of a six-month-old foetus wrapped in clothes and reported the matter to authorities.

Police responded promptly and launched investigations, which led them to a woman who had been visibly pregnant only days earlier but was no longer so. During questioning, the woman admitted that she was the mother, leading detectives to the clinic where the procedure was allegedly carried out.

According to the DCI, officers found that the facility was operating without the required registration. A search of the premises uncovered surgical equipment and various drugs, some bearing fresh blood stains. The clinic was immediately closed, and all items recovered were seized as evidence.

The woman was taken to Marsabit Referral Hospital for urgent medical treatment before being escorted, together with the suspected practitioner, to Marsabit Police Station. Both suspects are now being processed ahead of their arraignment in court.

Authorities said the foetus was recovered and taken to Marsabit Referral Mortuary for preservation.

The DCI urged members of the public to report suspicious activities through its toll-free hotline, noting that timely information can help prevent unsafe medical practices and protect vulnerable individuals.

The agency reiterated its commitment to dismantling unlicensed medical facilities while ensuring that those affected by illegal procedures receive appropriate medical care and protection.
