Ezekiel Mutua, the CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), has refuted rumors claiming he has been suspended from his position.
In an interview with The Star on Monday, Mutua urged the public to be cautious about the notice circulating on social media, calling it false. He stated that the document was created by individuals who oppose his efforts to enforce legal compliance within the society.
“There is no suspension. CEOs are not suspended over the weekend,” Mutua explained. “Let me make it clear: I am still in office, and I have neither been fired nor suspended.”
While acknowledging ongoing leadership disagreements within MCSK, Mutua clarified that the disputes are limited to the non-executive Directors, not the CEO or staff.
“The CEO and staff are not elected, and there are established procedures for any disciplinary actions. My only ‘offense’ has been preventing individuals from entering the office without following the correct procedures,” he said.
MCSK National Chairperson Lazarus Muli also condemned the notice, calling it “malicious propaganda” designed by those with harmful intentions. He stressed that Mutua and his team have brought significant positive change to the industry, which had been previously controlled by individuals pushing personal agendas.
Muli assured that the leadership remains fully supportive of Mutua, and appropriate legal actions are being taken against those responsible for spreading the false claims. He urged MCSK members and stakeholders to disregard the misleading information.
“The leadership stands firmly behind Mutua, and we ask all members to reject this propaganda with the contempt it deserves,” Muli said.
