Suspects of a Group of Religious Sects Kill 10 in Uganda

Police said two suspects were also killed when they tried to attack the security forces.

About 10 people have been confirmed dead, and 8 others have been hospitalized after being injured in an attack carried out in Kigadi District, Western Uganda.

Uganda Police and Army UPDF confirmed on Wednesday.

“Preliminary information shows that members of a religious group, whose name has not been revealed, attacked families, most of whom are their relatives, by cutting them with a sharp instrument and causing deaths and injuries,” said Majaj Bilal Katamba after the attack at three o’clock in the night in Muzizi Village.

According to Major Katamba, the Ugandan Army and the Police have started a search to identify the suspects of the attack while the investigation is ongoing.

In another statement, the spokesperson of the police in the Albertine region SP Julius Allan Hakiza named four children among those killed.

Eight others have been admitted to health centers in Kyaterekera. A panel of police officers led by DPC Kagadi Ampurira Kenneth and Army officers are handling the incident.

“We are investigating this incident, and the reasons for this attack which are not yet known. We urge the community to provide any information related to this incident. Your cooperation is important to bring the perpetrators to justice” SP Hakiza added
